What this tool does

It turns a Word document (.docx) into a PDF you can send, print or upload to a form that only takes PDFs, without Microsoft Word installed. Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, bulleted and numbered lists, tables and pictures all come through, laid out on A4 or US Letter pages. Add several documents and they become one PDF in the order you set, or a separate PDF each.

How to convert Word to PDF

  1. Choose your .docx file, or drop it onto the box above. Add more files if you want them in the same PDF.
  2. If you added more than one, drag them into the order you want.
  3. Pick A4 or US Letter paper.
  4. Select Convert to PDF, then download the result.

What happens to your document

We never upload your file. The document is read and converted inside this browser tab, on your own device, and the PDF is created there too. That makes it a sensible choice for CVs, letters and contracts you would rather not hand to a conversion website.

When to use Word's own Save as PDF instead

This converter keeps your content, not your exact design. Your fonts, colours, columns, text box positions, headers, footers, footnotes, comments and charts are not reproduced. If you have Word, Word Online or Google Docs to hand and the layout matters, File, Save As (or Download), PDF gives an exact copy. Use this tool when you do not have those, on a shared computer, or on a phone.

  • The older .doc format is not supported yet; save it as .docx first.
  • Text uses the fonts built into every PDF reader, which cover English and Western European languages. Other scripts show as "?", and you are warned when that happens.
  • The files you convert at once can add up to 200 MB.

Need to convert a spreadsheet, a photo or a text file as well? The Any file to PDF converter takes them all.

The content will be there, but the look is simplified. Text, headings, bold and italic, lists, tables and pictures are kept; your fonts, colours, columns, headers and footers are not. For an exact copy, use File, Save As, PDF in Word itself.

No. We never upload your file. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device, so the document is not sent to our servers or stored by us.

Not yet. Only the .docx format used by Word 2007 and later is supported. Open the .doc file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, save it as .docx, then convert that.

Yes. Add all of them, drag them into order and leave "Combine into one PDF" on. You can mix in images, spreadsheets and existing PDFs too.
