What this tool does

It turns the files you choose into a PDF: Word documents, Excel workbooks, photos and screenshots, plain text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, HTML and source code. Add several files of different kinds and they become one PDF, in the order you set, or a separate PDF each if you prefer. Any PDFs you add are kept exactly as they are, so you can put a cover letter, a spreadsheet and a scanned form into a single file.

How to convert a file to PDF

  1. Choose your files, or drop them onto the box above.
  2. If you added more than one, drag them into the order you want.
  3. Pick A4 or US Letter paper, and whether to combine them into one PDF.
  4. Select Convert to PDF, then download the result.

What happens to your files

We never upload your file. The conversion runs inside this browser tab, on your own device, and the PDF is created there too. Your documents are not sent to our servers or stored by us. Pictures that a web page links to are not fetched either, so converting an HTML file never sends a request on your behalf.

What it cannot do

  • It does not copy the look of a Word or Excel file exactly. Text, headings, bold and italic, lists, tables and pictures come through; fonts, colours, columns, text boxes' positions, headers, footers, footnotes, comments and charts do not. For an exact copy, use Save as PDF in Word or Excel.
  • Spreadsheets show the values Excel last calculated, one sheet after another. Very wide sheets are split into groups of columns, and only the first 5,000 rows of each sheet are included.
  • PowerPoint, the old .doc and .xls formats, OpenDocument files and iPhone HEIC photos are not supported yet. The tool tells you how to save each of those in a format it can read.
  • Text uses the fonts built into every PDF reader, which cover English and Western European languages. Other scripts show as "?", and you are warned when that happens.
  • The files you convert at once can add up to 200 MB.

Word documents (.docx), Excel workbooks (.xlsx), images (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP), plain text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, HTML and source code files. You can also add existing PDFs, which are kept exactly as they are. PowerPoint, the old .doc and .xls formats, and iPhone HEIC photos are not supported yet; the tool tells you how to convert those another way.

No. We never upload your file. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device, so your documents are not sent to our servers or stored by us.

The content will be there, but the look is simplified. Text, headings, bold and italic, lists, tables and pictures are kept; your fonts, colours, columns, headers and footers are not. For a pixel-perfect copy, use Save as PDF in Word or Excel itself. This tool is for when you do not have those programs to hand.

Yes. Add as many files as you like, of any mix of types, and put them in order. They become one PDF in that order. Switch off "Combine into one PDF" if you want a separate PDF for each file instead.

The converter uses the fonts built into every PDF reader, which cover English and other Western European languages. Letters from other scripts, such as Cyrillic, Arabic or Chinese, are replaced with "?" and the tool warns you when that happens.
