What this tool does
Unlock PDF removes the password from a PDF you are allowed to open, so you do not have to type it every time, or so you can merge, split or edit the file with other tools. It also lifts printing and editing restrictions from files that open without a password.
It is not a password cracker. You need the password that opens the file. With a wrong password it stops and tells you; it never guesses.
How to remove a password from a PDF
- Choose the locked PDF, or drop it onto the box above.
- Type the password you use to open it.
- Select Remove password, then download the unlocked copy.
What happens to your file and password
We never upload your file, and your password never leaves this tab. The file is decrypted inside your browser, on your own device, and we do not store the password anywhere.
What it cannot do
- It cannot open a PDF whose password you do not know.
- Bookmarks, form fields and attachments are not carried into the unlocked copy; the pages themselves are unchanged.
- Only remove protection from files you have the right to use that way.
